Batfamily + Being drunk (their tolerance and how they act, etc)

Bruce: Lightweight. Called Alfred crying from his dorm room because kids were drinking beer, and Alfred had to remind him they were 25, and Bruce was 25 too, and he can't come pick him up.

Very emotional drunk. "I just love all of you, with every beat of my broken heart," probably has to be physically restrained from calling his exes

Dick: Takes him a bit to get drunk, but when it settles, it settles DEEP. Sloppy drunk. Injured his back when he climbed on the table to dance and couldn't go on patrol for two weeks.

Probably calls Bruce to cry about everything and anything. "There's homeless polar bears. Can you buy them homes, Tati?"

Jason: VERY lightweight. Next to no alcohol tolerance. This man gets drunk on Capri Sun. Affectionate drunk.

Just picks up family members and walks around with them. Bruce has a 200lbs puppy pulling him in the tightest bear hug

Tim: Angry drunk, but in a pathetic kitten way. Confuses a wall for Jason and hits it for 10 minutes. He goes on about conspiracy theories, " BIGFOOT WAS A FURRY IN THE WILD" and how we should demolish the government

Duke: Funny drunk. Prank calls the GCPD. He likes doing Rogue impersonations. He's strangely good at pulling off a Harley voice, " I fucked your wife, by the way. Just thought you should know."

Steph: Surprisingly, the serious drunk. "Do you think there's a sense to living if there's nothing beyond?" I think she'd spill her darkest fears and insecurities in stand up style and claim she remembers nothing the next morning.

" Trauma? Never heard of her. Is that a new kid?"

yall gotta STOP saying hunter was trying to kill amity in eclipse lake. he was not. he was going out of his way not to kill her. his goal was to get the key and to get the key only.

lets discuss in detail.

image

absolute first thing that happens: King wehs Hunter

image

Hunter gets Flapjack staff

image

He teleports twice, says 'real staffs are weird' and then amity ties him up. he teleports out of this into the air.

then we has his first actual aggressive non defensive move:

image
image

This is an AOE attack. area of effect. its an attack that does less damage but hits a larger area. so this sends bolts of magic scattering and bouncing all over the place. none of them actually HIT her. and this attack does not aim at her. It purely puts her on the defensive because she is now dodging blasts.

she hops off her staff to block one and then hunter teleports in

image

he is now behind her and she is caught off guard. he does not attack her flank, he just reaches for the key, before king tackles him.

image

he teleports behind her again, and this time comes in with a swing.

image

one she easily blocks. again, not a magical attack here. staff bash.

okay now follow this:

image

hes here, with her shield

image

he zaps over here, lower, moves to swing but doesnt, zaps again

image

baps her again after her shield has already moved above her head

image

she moves her shield left, he comes in right but hes not even swinging.

image
image

amity punches his fucking lights out and then orbs him

image

he hits her with this construction punch that knocks her off her staff before she can escape

image

and finally he breaks the necklace with his staff.

none of these attacks were lethal. he hits her with an AOE instead of a direct attack- and she didnt have a shield up yet because she had JUST used it to tie him up, then he hops around with, frankly, some staff bashes that are really holding back from what we know hes capable of, he knocks her off her staff and then when he has the opportunity to actually HIT her he hits the key instead.

compare this to the way he fights kikimora!

image

he nearly gets his head taken off when she scrapes his forehead and the next attack he blocks with his eyes on Kikimora, not the attack. thats like, important. that indicative of skill level.

image

especially because he does it twice in a row! the second time one handed!

image

look at the completely different posture he zaps in to strike with. the hits on amity he is holding back.

image
image
image

this little bastard does a front flip mid teleport to generate strength behind this strike.

image

look how effortlessly he does this. imagine how many rotations that is in a single second. hes not even looking at it OR his hands. hes spinning that one handed.

ive trained on a bo staff. this shit is not easy. i trained for two years and couldnt get anywhere near that. just watch this video of noah fort going apeshit to see what this actually looks like irl.

image
image

he fucking... hits it back at her....

this little man can spin a staff so fast he can reflect magic and control the direction it fires. he hit kikimora so hard he sent her flying twenty feet.

if hunter had wanted to kill amity she'd be fucking dead dude. amity is a good fighter, like, don't get me wrong. but hunters op as absolute shit. hes a terrifying little man. he also fought her completely differently than he did kiki, and he wasnt even trying to kill her. we've never seen Hunter fight all out like, fight to the death when he was still at full strength. we have no idea what that would look like. but we know that fight with amity was faaaaar from his potential. intentionally. he is seriously holding back and clearly on purpose. its not just that hes exhausted already, its not just that he has a new staff, its that he is holding back. he is not using lethal techniques.

YESSSSSS This is ABUNDANTLY TRUE, thank you for saying it gdi. I've stressed this before but Hunter, like most martial artists, have REALLY precise control over their bodies! Every move is incrediby deliberate! This, paired with what we are seeing also tells us a lot about who he is as a person: he is GENTLE, and is disinclined to lethal violence--even when it would have benefited him and his *stated goals* in these scenes of retrieving something important for Belos. He even left Kikimora alive after he defeated her even though they were alone in the god damn forest with no one around.

He was conducting himself with incredible deliberation at Eclipse Lake and holding back quite a lot even with respect to the physical exhaustion he was already experiencing. Hunter doesn't want to kill. And the choices he makes here makes it very clear he goes out of his way to avoid that to his own damn detriment even!

It's me again. The therapist/illustrator who can't stop squeaking and screaming about her beloved son Hunter.

I've been thinking nonstop about him finding the terrible grimwalker graveyard, imagining what would be going through my mind if I were him. Sifting through whatever moments, dialogue and frames that I can find from the existing material, along with references outside of the show, to formulate what an offscreen scene would've been like..
(And seeing if I can find editable and salvageable enough backgrounds so I could perhaps even depict this scene one day)

A soul like him who not only wants to help others, but also acquire knowledge:

image

heading back here to see the graveyard:

image

You can't tell me that this wouldn't still be on his mind, and he's even anxious while saying this below, scratching his face a little:

image

Whether he follows up on this or not, also depends on how he looks back on being shown this:

image

And is he just going to go cold turkey and totally drop these leads he was pursuing in the episodes before the finale? :

Three things prompted me to finally write this post:

  1. @polyhexian's and @ashanimus's analyses of Hunter's fight scenes in Hunting Palismen and Eclipse Lake (links here and here, they're really cool to read!!), based on their years of experience with martial arts. Reading those was a revelation to me because learning about how high Hunter's skill level is, how in touch with his body he is by default, portrayed so well thanks to the crew...that allows me to make far more educated guesses about his mental health in the early stages of the pre-epilogue gap of about 4 years. Because he is so used to high activity and being on high alert, no thanks to having C-PTSD.
  2. Observing how light and free Hunter's expressions are, and how transformed his demeanor became, in the epilogue sequence. That transformation is an indication to me of the magnitude of grief which had to be transformed within him. To be put back together, in order to be so radiant, generous and self-actualized in the epilogue...imagine how much had to be deconstructed and further broken beforehand. He wouldn't have room to fill his life up with all that amazing newness if the old isn't emptied out first.
  3. This psychoeducational video by my fave author, also a practicing therapist, who specializes in traumatic grief: link. Hearing her address the topic of entering the second year after a bereavement vs. the first year, was interesting. Definitely confirms to me that Hunter wouldn't have carved Waffles until past the 2nd year of navigating his bereavement.

I will forever love the idea of Hunter having survivors guilt, especially after the death of flapjack.

There were hundreds of grimwalkers. And every single one of them have died, except Hunter. What makes Hunter so special that he gets to live but the others don’t? And just think about it, he was meant to die! Not just because it’s his fate as the golden guard, but also in Thanks to Them. Belos was supposed to yet again kill another grimwalker, but then flapjack sacrificed himself for Hunter to survive. Just think about the survivors guilt man. Hunter dying was always alluded to throughout the show, and when he actually does die, Flapjack saves him and dies instead. Imagine Hunter thinking that he should be the one that’s dead, not flapjack. It was his fate to die, it always was, just like all the other grimwalkers, and yet flapjack died instead.

It’s already bad enough of the guilt from being the only grimwalker to survive, but then to add to that someone else had to die for him to live.
